Research says math anxiety can lead to a decrease in working memory and that girls taught by a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.edweek.org\/ew\/articles\/2011\/05\/18\/31math_ep.h30.html\">female teacher with high math anxiety<\/a>\u00a0are more likely to\u00a0endorse gender-related stereotypes about math ability. (The same is not true for boys.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: left;\">But what does all this mean for the math classroom? What can teachers do to combat math anxiety, whether or not they have it themselves?<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; text-align: left;\">Psychology professors Sian L. Beilock of the University of Chicago and Daniel T. Willingham<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>of the University of Virginia\u00a0have some ideas.
